Life from a bird’s eye view is all about money. And this applies to all professions and fields of life. Even the doctors (known as Messiah, مسیحا) need money to put food on the table. A widespread perception is that healthcare professionals or doctors make huge amounts of money. A common man thinks of a doctor as a cash cow. And in some instants, a merciless creature who remorselessly feeds on their blood. But the reality is contradictory to such beliefs as we’re about to share authentic and fully updated details regarding salary of doctors in Pakistan (pay scale & allowances) of all four provinces: The Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), Sindh and Balochistan.
Writing this article reminds me of Ralph Ransom’s quote, “You sow in tears before you reap joy.” But this works in opposite in our case. We, the-doctors-to-be sow years of hard work only to reap disappointments. You will know why in the later part of this article.
This blog post has been written in an effort to show you the salary of doctors in Pakistan. We did thorough research (by visiting health department websites and reading news articles) for collecting this data which is totally accurate and up-to-date to our knowledge.
Salary of Doctors in Pakistan

- Salary of House Officers: Rs. 24,000/month
- Salary of Postgraduate Residents (P.G): Rs. 42,500/month
And sadly, the poor house officers here in Balochistan, work UNPAID FOR MONTHS before the government releases their salaries. The provincial government stores their salaries in piggy banks and takes profit (interests via local banks) before paying it to them. 😀

Salary of Doctors in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KPK)
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) is considered as the heaven for doctors because of the lucrative salary packages and incentives. Doctors from around the country are exploring their family trees to find ancestor-lineage to KPK for making themselves a domicile and find jobs there. 😀
Salary of Medical Officers: Rs. 123,000/month
Salary of House Officers:
- Category A (Abbotabad/Peshawar) : Rs.52,000/month
- Category B (Dera Ismail Khan/Mardan): Rs. 64,000/month
Salary of Postgraduate Resident (P.G):
- Final Year PG: Rs. 99,000/month in Peshawar/Abbotabad & Rs. 109,000/month in DIK/Mardan
- 4thYear PG: Rs. 89,000/month in Peshawar/Abbotabad & Rs. 99,000/month in DIK/Mardan
- 1st Year PG: Rs. 73,000/month in Peshawar/Abbotabad & Rs. 83,000/month in DIK/Mardan
***Correction: The salary for 1st year PG in KPK is Rs. 61,000/month. And an additional 15,000/month is only for day scholars who do not take hostel accommodation. (Added by Dr. Shanze, a 2nd year PG training in KPK).
At Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar the salary packages for senior doctors are as follows:

House Officers Salary: Rs. 24,000 to 25,000 per month in government hospitals (at Aga Khan University Hospital, they pay Rs. 32,000/month)
Medical Officer Salary: It varies from Rs. 25,000 to 45,000 month
PG Salary: Rs. 65,000/month at government hospitals and at AKUH (Indus Hospital currently pays: Rs. 55,000/month)

Additional 15,000 are only for day scholars who have willingly given up hostel accomodation.

Sir I don’t have documented evidence at the moment but I can guarantee its authenticity since I myself am a second year PG at Peshawar.

Worse condition in sindh….. After 5yrs and one of yr house job so less salary how a person manage his or her house grocery children’s school fees etc
Figures about KPK are wrong.
Please post original pay slip to prove that anyone is getting this much salary. Otherwise Emergency Medical Officer in Layyah and Lodhran in Punjab is getting 180000 rupees per month salary.
