Frederick M Azar MD (Author)
Frederick M. Azar, MD, is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine in Memphis, Tennessee. He is Chief of Staff at the Campbell Clinic, as well as Professor and Director of the Sports Medicine Fellowship program in the University of Tennessee-Campbell Clinic Department of Orthopaedic Surgery & Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Azar is the team physician for the Memphis Grizzlies, The University of Memphis, Christian Brothers University, Christian Brothers High School, and the NBA G League Memphis Hustle.
Dr. Azar attended the University of Notre Dame for his undergraduate degree. After earning his medical degree from the Tulane University School of Medicine, he completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Tennessee-Campbell Clinic Department of Orthopaedic Surgery & Biomedical Engineering and a fellowship in sports medicine at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama.
For more than 20 years, Dr. Azar has been a volunteer in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), where he served as President, Treasurer, and Board Member at-Large. He is currently a Director-Elect for the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons (ABOS), in addition to maintaining an active role in several other national and international professional societies.
